JOIN KOBOLD AS A TECHNICAL INSIDE SALES REPRESENTATIVE
Onsite | Robinson, PA
Turn on your shower. Fill up your gas tank. Open a bottle of your favorite drink. Take medication. Grab something out of the refrigerator.
There are industrial processes behind nearly everything we use, eat, drink, and depend on every day. And somewhere along the way, someone needs to know exactly what's happening inside those processes.
How much liquid is moving through a pipe? Is there enough pressure? Is a tank getting too full? Is something getting too hot—or not hot enough?
Most of us never think about those things.
KOBOLD does.
We develop and manufacture instruments that measure flow, pressure, level, and temperature—helping the companies that make, move, process, and produce the things we use every day keep their operations running safely, efficiently, and accurately.
Think of it as giving an industrial operation the ability to see what's happening in places people physically can't.
With countless possible configurations, there isn't always one obvious answer when a customer comes to us looking for help.
If your natural instinct is to unravel the puzzle…
That's where you come in.
WHAT YOUR DAYS WILL ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE →
Most customers aren't going to call you with a perfectly defined problem, the exact product they need, and a part number ready to go.
They might know what they're trying to measure. They might know what isn't working. They might have 20% of the information you actually need.
Your job is to help uncover the other 80%.
That means asking questions, understanding the application, and gathering enough information to identify the right product and configuration. With complex products that can have many different iterations—and pricing that often requires an exact part number—getting from the initial request to the right solution is a big part of the job.
You'll serve as the first level of support for our customers, determining what you can handle and when to bring in another member of the inside sales team or an engineering resource. Part of being great at this job is knowing what questions to ask and when to pull someone else into the conversation. And sometimes, getting to the right answers takes some digging.
A prospective customer might call looking for a product recommendation. A current customer might need an order update. Someone else may have a technical problem that needs to be escalated to engineering before a quote can be produced. You'll also support our outside sales team with quoting and opportunity management, actively managing roughly 30 opportunities per week at various stages.
That means competing priorities are part of the job. You'll need to know what needs attention now, what needs follow-up, what needs engineering support, and what can't afford to sit unanswered.
But this role isn't just reactive.
What we want is for you to get curious about the customers who already buy from us.
A customer purchased a product. It was delivered successfully. Great.
How is it working? What else are they trying to accomplish? Are there other applications within their facility where KOBOLD could help?
If they're buying one product from us, chances are they're buying other products we offer somewhere else.
We want you to help uncover those opportunities.
This isn’t an order-entry role. You're helping customers figure out what's possible.
Think inside sales + customer success + technical problem solving + account growth.
THIS ROLE IS A GREAT FIT IF →
You have experience in industrial B2B or an adjacent technical sales environment and understand that technical selling moves differently than transactional sales.
That industrial experience matters.
You need to understand the pace, the customers, and the reality that sometimes the person calling you doesn't know exactly what they need either.
You also need enough technical aptitude to learn complicated products, understand how different specifications affect a solution, and become increasingly confident navigating product configurations over time.
An engineering or technical degree would certainly help. Experience with instrumentation, automation, process control, manufacturing, or a similar technical environment would be even better. But we're equally interested in people who have built their technical knowledge through experience and know how to operate in a customer-facing industrial environment.
You need to actually like the customer-facing part, too.
If your ideal technical sales job is sitting quietly in the background and producing quotes all day, this probably isn't it.
Here, you'll communicate regularly over the phone and through email with buyers, purchasing professionals, applications engineers, and the people actually using the equipment. You need to be comfortable picking up the phone, asking follow-up questions, working through a problem, and collaborating with the people around you.
You're also comfortable managing a lot of moving pieces.
An opportunity worth $1,000 deserves a response. So does one worth $25,000. You'll need to prioritize intelligently without allowing smaller opportunities, customer questions, or follow-ups to disappear.
If you like having a voice, offering ideas, improving how things work, and being part of a company that's willing to change something when there's a better way to do it, you'll have room to do that here.
Most importantly, you're curious.
When you don’t have every piece of information, your instinct isn't to throw your hands up.
It's to start asking questions.

This is an onsite role in Robinson, Pennsylvania.
Being together matters in this role. You'll be learning a complex product portfolio, collaborating with experienced inside salespeople and engineers, supporting outside sales, and navigating customer questions that don't always have an obvious answer. Having the right people within reach will be an important part of building your technical knowledge and becoming effective quickly.
Regular working hours are 8:00 AM–4:45 PM.
You'll support customers nationwide, but no travel is required for this role.
COMPENSATION →
The base salary for this position is $65,000–$80,000, depending on experience. KOBOLD offers additional earning opportunities through quarterly company-performance bonuses and a year-end bonus.
Benefits include medical coverage with approximately 80% of the employee premium covered by KOBOLD, dental, vision, 401(k), and paid time off.
THE BOTTOM LINE →
If you like technical products but don't want to spend your entire day behind the scenes…
If you enjoy customers but want conversations that require more than following a script…
And if your brain naturally goes to "Okay, tell me more. What are you actually trying to accomplish?" when someone brings you a problem…
You’ll really like it here.
KOBOLD is a 28-person company that's continuing to grow, averaging approximately 5–6% year-over-year growth. We're established enough to have decades of technical knowledge and experienced people around you, but small and open-minded enough that a good idea doesn't have to travel through 12 layers of approval before someone listens.
We're looking for someone who can become a trusted first point of contact for our customers—someone who can listen, ask the right questions, keep opportunities moving, and know when to pull in the technical experts around them.
You don't have to know every answer.
You do have to care enough to find it.
